My dad, Lloyd Long (9.12.48 - 4.22.19), was a loving husband and father, and he had a very special gift. He could take a rough piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. From houses to custom furniture and cabinetry, from musical instruments to small handheld crosses...just show him a picture and he could build it. Many homes and businesses throughout TN have a beautiful handcrafted item built by my dad. He was truly a master wood craftsman.
My parents ran The Carpenter Shop for years together. Dad always said mom was "Quality Control Inspector 12." They loved meeting with individuals and couples and creating something special for their homes or businesses. Their faith, love, compassion, integrity, and attention to quality created wonderful relationships with their customers, and business grew by word of mouth for years.
My dad had always hoped and prayed to teach someone his trade and pass along his business to the right apprentice. In 2016, pastor and family friend, Mark Turner, began working with dad. He was an answered prayer in more ways than one, as dad unexpectedly was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and passed away in 2019. Mark was the apprentice dad prayed for. He has become a part of our family and continued The Carpenter Shop beautifully.
